For all the Mely Fans out there, here are some extra photos of the South Shore Triathlon.

Mely getting ready the night before.  She checked her list twice, made sure she had all she need if the day was nauty or nice!

Step 3: Enter Transition.  Transition Check!

This is the area where Mely had her assigned spot to keep her bicycle and back pack for all that she needed for the race.

If you look close enough, Mely is in green.  She is busy setting everything ready for the race ahead.

This is how lake Michigan looked at 6:10 AM

After the transition area closes at 6:30 AM they send all the athletes to the beach.  Athletes and friends headed to the beach for the swimming portion of the triathlon!

This is lake shore drive, where the bike portion of the Triathlon took place!

A fellow triathlete we knew, got these amazing pictures of Mely as she sprints for the finish line!

And he got an action shot!!!!

After our post race breakfast and naps, we had to return the Wet-Suit, clearly Mely had parting issues!

Off to the 20K Bike Ride

Sorry Mely fans, our athlete is to fast for me and I was only able to get her bike tire. But anyway she is off to the 20K bike ride!

Me tendrán que disculpar club de fanes de Mely pero nuestra atleta es demasiado rápida y solo he podido tomar la foto de su llanta trasera. En fin, acaba de empezar la carrera de bicicletas de 20 KM!

She is out of the Water!

Done with the swim with an approximate time of 14 minutes!

Mely's wave started right on time, she is off to swim 750 meters!

Here is our Tri-Athlete getting everything ready for tomorrow!

The Day Before the Race!

The day before any big endurance event is very important.  I made sure Mely ate a good combination of carbs and protein and drank tons of water.  

 This afternoon was the big packet pick up event!  We headed to Ram Racing to pick up Mely's packet and this has been the first time that I have seen our tri-athlete nervous.  Well more like SUPER nervous!

Not to worry though, as soon as we were in line for her bib number, a seasoned tri-athlete had some encouraging and motivating advice.  I also think he was a little jealous because no one had a blog of him!

And of course after she saw the awesome back pack they gave to all participants the nerves were out the door.

After the packet pickup I made our tri-athlete her requested dinner of pasta with chicken and spinach and mushroom sauce! She had 3 helping!

HER BIB NUMBER IS 652! We will be following you!

Para El Club de Fans de Mely

En honor al gran Club de Fanes de Mely, he decidido agregar unos cuantos comentarios en Español. 

Todos por aquí en Chicago estamos súper emocionados de que Mely va a competir en su primer Triatlon.  Mely lleva desde Abril preparándose para este gran evento.  El triatlon se llevara acabo el Sábado 30 de Julio en Jackson Park. 

Cheque las distancias que Mely nadara, andará en bicicleta y correrá!

Tenemos que llegar al parque a las 6 de mañana para preparar su bicicleta, que le marquen sus piernas y brazos con su número, y que se ponga su “Wet Suit” 

Porcierto chequen lo bien que se ve la Señorita Mely en su Wet Suit, así que cuidado no se metan con ella!

El Sábado empezando a las 6 de mañana hora de Chicago empezare a bloggear en vivo para que todos los fanes de Mely sepan como le esta llendo!

Keeping our Tri-athlete Entertained

Yesterday was Mely's first day of tapering.... a.k.a. a day with no planned exercise.  There was fear that she would be restless, so a busy day of activities was planned.


We had a fabulous afternoon at Jazzin' at the Shedd.  I must say the Pièce de résistance was the Jellie exhibition!

I must also tell all of Mely's roaring fans that Mely has a big fan at the Shedd Aquarium.  In order to wish her good luck at the South Shore Triathlon on Saturday a beluga whale decided to spit on her!!!! With warm-felt wishes like that, there will be nothing stopping Mely on Saturday!

I only hope that today, I can continue to keep our restless triathlete at bay!

Carbing Up!

Today Mely and I spent the day carbing up... yes I completely used her as an excuse to eat some yummy thai food.  Followed by a delicious dinner, provided by my awesome roomate!

Today is also Melys official last day of hard-core training!

Tomorrow tapering starts!  The question is.... How restless will she be for the next couple of days!!!

Getting the Wet Suit

Today we went to Fleet Feet to rent the famous Wet Suit for Saturday! It was an adventure just for Mely to get into the wet-suit, yes I laughed but also helped her!
